August 7, 2020
The International Rabbinic Fellowship, together with the whole house of Israel, deeply mourns the passing of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, zt"l.
R. Steinsaltz was a true pioneer who revolutionized the study of Talmud by translating it into Hebrew its entirety through the course of the 1960's and 1970's and adding explanatory historical and halakhic notes making it more and more accessible to a wide range of Israelis and Hebrew speakers. Later the volumes were translated into English opening up the Talmud to so many who yearned to plumb its depths.
R. Steinsaltz wrote many other popular works in areas of Jewish thought, Bible and Jewish mysticism, opening these worlds to a vast public. R. Steinsaltz was a master teacher whose wit and charm made Torah beloved and inviting to so many throughout the world. He sanctified God's name in public with his engaging and clear presentations to the non-Jewish world of Judaism and its. central tenets.
May his family be comforted by the Almighty amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
